Canon Info
Canon Name: Karen Kohiruimaki
Canon Age: 19
Canon: Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online
Character Summary: Karen is in, a lot of ways, a totally average college student. The youngest of a five child family, the one thing that made her stand out was her unusual height. Standing at 183 cm, she was remarkably tall for a Japanese woman, and had been even in her younger years. The resulting teasing she'd endured for so long lead her to have a complex about her height, and lead to her having a mild mannered personality. While she didn't turn away friendships, she made no effort to make them herself. She never tried to pretty herself up, preferring a comfortable pair of blue jeans over a dress. Her main hobbies were secluding herself to indulge in music and reading. Those didn't make her have to be social, after all. Books and music didn't tease her for something that she had no control over. After graduating from high school, she applied for a high end college and was surprised when she was admitted. Perhaps all that time with books had paid off. She moved to Tokyo, and into an apartment paid for by one of her sisters. A part of her hoped the change in home would allow her to change her life, but sadly, it did not.
Eventually she found out about virtual games through a segment on the news. She was instantly interested when she found out how realistic they were. More importantly, she discovered she could experience what it was like to be different from her real self. This meant she could live in a world where she didn't get stared at her for being so tall! She contacted a friend who was into those sorts of games, and before long was set up to generate her character. When she logged into the game her friend recommended, she was immediately put off by the fact her in game character was just as big as she was in the real world. She gave up right then and there, and was ready to write off the thought of vr games entirely, until her friend informed her she could just transfer her data to a new game and try again. She kept doing this over and over until it finally happened. She found a game that generated a cute avatar for her. She didn't care what the game was, she decided to stick with it. For awhile she didn't even try to play it, and would just wander around the in-game city as her tiny avatar. When she finally decided to try actually playing it, she discovered it to be shooting game. Eventually, and kind of accidentally, she became a well known player killer, leading to her becoming friends with another female player.
On the suggestion of said friend, she participated in a player vs. player tournament, teamed up with someone recommended by her friend. After a long battle that lead her to making some real life friends when she realized one of the other teams attended the high school affiliated with her college, she triumphed. It wasn't quite all good times, though, as her partner revealed that the female player she considered her friend was a bit on the psycho side, and had threatened to kill him if he lost in the game. After meeting this player in real life, she found out her friend was some sort of weirdo obsessed with death, and had decided to make the next tournament a very special one by putting her life on the line, and killing herself in the real world if she died in the game. The only way to prevent it would be for her to defeat her personally, as the two had promised to meet in the real world if Karen ever killed her in a pvp match.
And alongside her friend that had recommended she try vr games, she eventually succeeded after lots of dramatic battles. She was unable to claim total victory, though, as mere moments after she defeated her friend, a bunch of lame campers shot her down and became the champions. Jerks. They totally didn't deserve to win.
And in one of the least surprising twists in anime history, after her friend lived up to her promise to meet her, it turns out she was actually an idol Karen obsessed over.
AU Info
AU Name: Karen Kohiruimaki
Age: 19
Suitability: N/A
AU History: Not much really needs to change from her canon backstory to get her to fit into the game. The basic parts of her backstory work fine, she has a fairly standard family life, and is currently not living with them in order to attend college. Obviously in this world she was not involved in a hyper realistic virtual reality game, though she's fond of playing more traditional video games when she has the time. Its in one of these games that she has the adorable little avatar that became her dreamer form.
It was when she was 16 that she awakened as a Dreamer. The anxiety she felt from getting stares everywhere she went eventually lead to her getting tormented in her dreams as well, assaulted by vaguely humanoid figures that seemed designed just to annoy her, each being noticeably shorter then she was. To anyone else it might have made them seem like easier opponents, but Karen knew exactly what was going. The things were so short entirely to emphasis how tall she was in comparison.
It didn't have the effect the torments wanted. Instead of adding to her anxiety and making her easy prey, it instead annoyed her to the point she started shouting at them to go away. There wasn't any fear in her voice, she had just been pushed to the point of snapping. And then, her vision blurred for a moment. It returned to normal rapidly, and when it had the things seemed much bigger. Oddly, this didn't concern her a bit. What did was that she was wearing pink gloves she hadn't had on before, and was holding something that she hadn't had moments before, a familiar weapon that looked just like the firearm she used in one of her favorite video games. Having some idea of what had happened, having read about Dreamers while hiding from the real world in her apartment, she was quick to burst into action. The battle was short, the torments had not been expecting her to fight back, and instead she'd done so with ferocity. And after the battle she wandered and wondered. Why did everything seem like its size was wrong?
She found her answer when she ran across a body of water. She peered into it and the visage that peered back was not what she expected. It was small. Rounded. Cute. It was her face. And her face was adorable! Everything about her was exactly what she'd always wanted. It really was a dream world, after all.
And for the next 3 years, the Dream Sphere was her playground. Whenever she felt down about her real world self, she'd find time to zip into dreams. She became a tiny pink terror, bringing the skills she'd obtained playing shooting games into the dream world and using them to annihilate every torment she came across. She tried to avoid other Dreamers, though, not wanting to have to explain herself. How could she explain she was actually much older then she looked? People would most likely not believe it anyway, she convinced herself, so why bother interacting with them at all? Even when she happened to start college in the city where Dreamers congregate, she still kept to herself. Though she was helping incidentally by removing torments, she was doing it entirely because it was fun. She loved being able to be little and cute and powerful all at the same time.
Eventually she realized that while being cute was what she wanted, having no one around to appreciate it made it somewhat hollow. She knew all about what it was like to not be a giant, but she still hadn't actually made any friends. Because of that her mind slowly started to shift, and the thought of meeting and working alongside other Dreamers didn't seem like such a bad one. While she didn't go out of her way to find any, she no longer actively avoided them. Maybe she might even be eventually talked into being a member of the Union, just as long as TOO many people don't know the tiny pink girl is far too old to be playing dress-up.
AU Personality: All of the important parts of her personality are much the same as they are in canon, as the main difference for this game is she's in a dream world, rather then a video game. She's still quite mild mannered, and has few friends. (at least at the time of the app, she'll surely make some after actually existing in the game!) Naturally, the complex about being so tall still exists as well. The main difference is her method of escapism.
But the way she acts as LLENN IS a bit different. Without all the drama that comes with having psychotic friends, she's very lighthearted and carefree in the Dream Sphere. She's a great deal more bold as well, willing to take unrealistic and possibly foolish risks she'd never consider in the real world. Maybe its just the knowledge she isn't REALLY putting her life at risk, or maybe her overwhelming confidence comes from being in a body that she could never have in the real world. Wish fulfillment is powerful stuff! She's also a great deal more competitive in her Dreamer form. She might want to count torment kills to see who gets the most,, and is unlikely to give up on a fight unless its just plainly obvious its unwinnable. She can be pretty serious, however, if someone she actually cares about gets hurt. When she's not being reckless, she can be surprisingly tactical, and would be both willing to and able to follow orders when she inevitably joins the Dreamer Union.

Dreamer Info
Dreamer Title: Dreamer LLENN
Appearance:
Archetype: Striker
Weapon: As her Dream Sphere form is based on a game avatar, she uses the same weapon she does in the game, an adorably pink machine gun. It does not use actual bullets, nor does it need reloading. She also carries a much less cute combat knife, in case anything gets a little too close for comfort.
Power Considerations:
Pink Devil: While not an offensive ability, this allows LLENN to move at remarkable speed, even when compared to the enhanced physical abilities of Dreamers. It also gives her the reflexes she needs to stop on a dime. Useful for repositioning, carrying messages between teams, and being an annoying little gnat to make the Torments and Nightmares particularly annoyed with her. I know that powers are selected randomly, but this one is kind of important to the character's identity, her whole style of combat involves zipping around like she's full of caffeine and needs to burn off loads of energy. If balance is needed, as well as incentive to not just dump all upgrades into other skills, it could be limited to short bursts rather then letting her zoom across the entire Dream Sphere as she pleases, with longer bursts of speed at higher levels.
Magical Pink Love Love Grenade: Despite the cutesy sounding name, this in essence lets her conjure a small pink orb that looks vaguely like a hand grenade, which will detonate in a dome shaped explosion a few moments after it leaves her hand. The explosion it causes is also pink, this is very important information. Higher levels might cause bigger explosions, as well as letting her make one in each hand. Grenades are always best dual-wielded, after all. Useful both as a direct attack and also to herd enemies in a certain direction, such as into the path of....
Beam Trap: LLENN places a sigil on the ground at a distance from her. Its a (pink, of course) round emblem that has a shape vaguely like a silhouette of her head, rabbit ears hat and all, and when stepped upon will unleash a destructive burst of magic in a beam straight upwards. There is a brief activation period when triggered, leaving enough time for an enemy to possibly get out of even if dropped directly under someone's feet, so its best used as a trick, like a good trap should be. Upgrades could allow it to be set at longer ranges, as well as increase its destructive ability or decrease the time it takes to actually fire.
Pink Cheer Slash: Despite the fact her primary weapon is a firearm, she also carries a knife. However, there are some things that a knife can't cut through. What if she was faced with some manner of stone torment that her magic bullets weren't working on? Or she was backed into a corner and unable to even aim properly? Or what if she just wanted to look cool while engaged in violence? This ability coats her blade in her own magic, acting as a sort of enchantment that enhances its durability, damage potential, and also allowing it to inflict pink elemental damage. Note: there is not actually pink elemental damage. Higher levels might extend the energy to be longer then the blade, or allow her to actually launch a slash at a distance.
Signature Power: Dream Mirage Arsenal: With an extra dramatic point of her finger that would make an anime lawyer jealous, LLENN calls forth transparent replicas of her signature pink machine gun that float in place around her, all aiming in the direction she's pointing. Despite the mirage in the name, the attacks launched from these weapons are just as dangerous as ones launched from her main gun. Its the main gun that launches the final shot, possibly with some dramatic one-liner while doing so, causing one of those pink explosions she loves so much.
